"This year we wanted to do something totally different that was more casual and that more communities could easily attend," said Missy Van Lokeren, who handles publicity for the club.
The AJWC was established in 1965 and has approximately 85 members. It is an organization of Amherst women who volunteer their time, energy and talent to enhance the community. The group's mission is to focus efforts on civic needs, educational advancement and helping those less fortunate.
The Amherst Junior Women's Club will host its 2010 annual Spring Fundraiser, the group's biggest fundraiser of the year, on Friday, May 7, at Sky Lounge Bistro, 522 Amherst St., Nashua. This year's event will be a battle of the bands.
The fundraiser will feature three local bands, who will competefor a $500 grand prize Banshee, Raising Scarlet, and 7th Child and will be emceed by stand up comic and Nashua native Mike Koutrobis. There will also be a raffle, door prizes, and a silent auction including a date night package, a Florida getaway and Red Sox tickets.
Van Lokeren also stressed the importance of helping those in need.
"We absolutely could not succeed without support from our community and we are forever grateful to our supporters," she said.
